I agree with you - liked the EJN piece and the American Eulogy piece but Im wondering if I liked it because it seemed to “fit in” with the Green Day art for 21CB. Doesnt the American Euolgy piece look like it was pulled right from the new 21CB video (or vice versa?)Coincidential????

Well, the whole stencil art/street art theme has been a prominent one with the design of the album and with the exhibit, so I guess it’s not surprising.

Delfina- I really enjoyed reading your commentaries on the artwork and the songs- so cool that you can appreciate art as well as music! I admire the fact that you can critique art so well. It’s nice to read the words of a fellow art-lover. :D And for the record, I love ‘Last of the American Girls!’ Whoever called it cliche wasn’t listening properly…
Some of the crititques were a little harsh in my opinion, but that maybe just because I’m so sheltered, ha ha. :P
Anyway, nice job! I enjoyed reading. :D

so this is pat magnarella using Green Day to push into his new art management venture. It sure aint stupid but I do feel a little used.

I came across this quote by Logan Hicks, who organized the show, and it actually made me angry:

“I wanted the piece to be a response to the lyrics, not the music. So the majority of the artists got the lyrics before the album was even released. That way they only had the words to go on. I just feel that sometimes the music can skew the perception of the song.”

The music is the soul of the song! Any song. That’s like saying: “Instead of letting the public actually see the artwork on display, I had the artists write a description of the elements they used to compose their piece, so that viewers wouldn’t be distracted by the visual impact of the art!”

This ruins the entire show for me, since the art pieces are not actually interpretations of the songs themselves.

LOGAN HICKS tweeted (by the way fuk you green day for getting me onto twitter):

Green day art show went really well last night. Excellent turn out. Good sales. Tons of press. Good times.

Again, makes me feel like us green day fans got pimped out…

Wow, that does make me mad. I agree that music is the absolute soul of the song. The lyrics may come first but it’s the music that makes it such an emotional experience. I don’t think this Logan Hicks guy was too focused on something else rather than the artwork. Money perhaps….? *Sigh8* what a world.
