Green Day in Guitar World, August 1996

It’s been a while since I’ve posted any old magazines. This article is from the August 1996 issue of Guitar World. It was a bitter time, less than a year after the release of Insomniac and after the abrupt cancellation of their European tour. Here, the guys are dealing with the stress by being completely and hilariously obnoxious, ranting about all the old-time punk bastards who have been complaining about Green Day’s success. Thank you so much for posting that! It was a great read. I found it a bit ironic that Billie & Mike didn’t like Butch Vig back then & thought he would saturate their sound. It’s just sort of interesting to see how much they’ve changed. I wish I could have been around to watch it all go down, rather than have to piece it all together this way. Either way, thanks for adding another piece to my puzzle. :)

Contrary to Kelsey, I don’t think they’ve changed much at all. It seems to me they’re essentially the same and reading a piece like this makes me think that their personal and musical evolution has been natural and logical.

That is what Green Day is fucking about!! :D I loved this article! Thanks so much for the read. I loved what Billie said: ‘I can’t think of anything less punk than establishing a set of rules.’ ha ha. I hate it when the “Punk Police” come out and start hating on people. It’s so annoying. But I loved the way Billie and Mike spoke in this article- they bared their ture selves. You can really tell how much they love music by all the bands they mention and how they talk about the guitar sounds and other stuff like that. I look for things in music like that, so it was refreshing to read someone else geeking out over the little nuances in music. :D Thanks so much for the read! It was great!
